It's 830PM and it hasn't occured to me until now that today is Pearl Harbor day. Yikes. I bet everyone who was there remembered as soon as they woke up this morning.

Thanks to my favorite blogging friend Jackie, this image made my day. Along with the fact that the sun's coming out.

I'm in love with this album. I think because they all seem like they're having so much fun. And it's just so I don't know, awesome. I just want to dance but the rapping's cute too. And musically it's pretty impressive. Nicole Wray, what? Such wildly lovely vocals. I think RZA sounds like he's got a stuffy nose in one of the songs. I listen in my car on my way to work, the whole thing puts me in the best mood.

My last day of class ever. My roommate took a picture of me before we left for class today. She said it was a momentous occasion. I rolled my eyes at first but it was cute. I love my motherbear Jennie. She inspired this post, I think I would want to remember this day. When I'm fifty or something I guess. Goodbye Flagler. Exam week is the end. But today was the last official day I'll ever be in my school's classroom to learn something. It's been such fun. Oh dear.

"The nation that draws the most materials and provisions from the earth, fabricates the most, and sells the most of productions and fabrics to foreign nations, must be, and will be, the great power of the earth." -William Seward, 1856. I've just been thinking a lot these past weeks, what if things like this were never thought by those who came so far before us? Making a collage to visually represent America's past and present also put thoughts like this in my head. Much of what I've read for school this semester has been super interesting, but these are just a few quotes that are still sticking with me, ones I really really liked and hadn't heard before.
"The day, immesurably long, sleeps over the broad hills and warm wide fields. To have lived through all its sunny hours, seems longevity enough."- Emerson's Nature.
"How many of our men of fortune...surrender their birthright, for a mess of pottage, by resorting to costly and needless luxuries, which consume, without satisfying- while Art invites to her feast of beauty, where indulgence never cloys, and entails no penalty of self-reproach!"
"It is better to make shoes, or dig potatoes, or follow any other honest calling to secure a livelihood, than seek the pursuit of Art for the sake of gain."
- Asher B. Durand's Letters on Landscape Painting. I like that name, Asher.
"And, although an enlightened and increasing people have broken in upon the solitude, and with activity and power wrought changes that seem magical, yet the most distinctive, and perhaps the most impressive, characteristic of American scenery is its wildness" - Thomas Cole's Essay on American Scenery. I loved reading this essay. The whole thing makes me want to go live outside forever. Or at least do something to save our wildness.

Sean Connery is the most dashing James Bond. He's just the best, ever. There's not even the slightest contest.

The kitchen is the warmest room in the house.
Words could never do Emily's mother's cooking justice. It brings me feelings of pure joy. It was very nice enjoying the company of Emily's family today while cooking and eating. I think now we're all settling down for a nap before having pie. I wish I'd taken a picture of our plates. It looked like a magazine cover.
1. The smell of the turkey cooking was unlike anything I'd ever smelled. Turkey usually smells good every year but, I don't know smelling it in our house with a nice family that I didn't have three years ago was different and better somehow. I even basted the turkey one time while they were at the tennis courts. I almost dropped it but I didn't...The turkey was yummy and moist and perfectly roasted. I mean it tasted like turkey. Meh.
2. Emily's mom made brussel sprouts! They were amazing, she got them from fresh market and said they came on stalks like broccoli and she had to pick the little round heads off herself. So awesome. Anyway she roasted them or something in olive oil and that's it! They were all dark greenish yellow with brown spots where the oil had browned them more. They had gotten kind of soft and carmelized all over. I love brussel sprouts just plain steamed so eating them this fancy, rustic way was such a treat. Those are the reason why I made a second trip to the kitchen. I just had to have some more brussel sprouts.
3. She also made butternut squash casserole. I was a bit wary because the only other time I had butternut squash I didn't like it. But I tried it. There were pecans on top so how could it've been bad? And boy I am so glad I tried it. It was so creamy but still had some texture. Not like soupy creamy but it was like sweet potatoes kind of. But it had some cinnamon and yummy nutty flavors going on that I really appreciated. Geeze lou eeze I wish I vomited my food so I could make room to eat it all over again! I liked that she made things I had never eaten. I was so excited to try these sides!
4. The stuffing. The stuffing was probably the favorite. It's Emily's for sure. What can I say about it? Onions, ummm I don't really know what else was in it. Some more green things...apples? It just tasted like amazing buttery bread with really delicious surprises everywhere. There were no raisins but I didn't even miss them one bit. It went really well with the cranberry sauce I made this morning.
5. The mashed potatoes. Emily was in charge. A whole bag of red potatoes and some butter, some milk, they were hand mashed which is so much better than mashing them with an electric mixer. I chopped some parsley for the potatoes. It really made them special I think. They were lumpy with red skins and just mmm so heavenly! They just had so much flavor.
So, recap on adjectives to describe Emily's mothers Thanksgiving feast. unbelieveably, without a doubt, the best food i've had since last Easter when I went to eat with my daddy's family. It was warm, so tasty, really healthy feeling because who has brussel sprouts and Thanksgiving? There were many flavors and wonderful smells and everything was one hundred percent flawless. Gosh, I want to eat it again! Plus, it was just really nice to have such a loving, sweet, family to spend the day with since mine is down in Vero. The fact that Emily's mom is an out of this world cook kind of added to the jackpot of a Thanksgiving I was planning on having with them anyway. Nap then pie.

I'm so happy this is here for me to watch. I like this process. It's so interesting to watch people actually in the process of making music. Especially such great music like this. Dan Auerbach is a new favorite.
Oh and, I had a revelation this morning while I lay in bed, 830, frowning at my bedroom window. I kind of understand why we revolve around the sun. I can't get anything done if it doesn't come out. If it's not sunny, my whole day is just lazy, slow, unhappy, it's depressing really. Like a flower. It makes perfect sense now. Living on sunlight.
